As a lover of life, movement, and all things colorful, I am extremely passionate about sharing yoga with anyone that is open to growth, alignment and self exploration!
I discovered my passion for the practice in 2007 when I was pregnant and quickly realized that sharing both the value and the benefit with others, was how I wanted to spend my time. However, meditation & movement had been a part of my life way before I knew to call it yoga! As a pre-teen breath work & body movement were introduced as a way to help manage my anger, deal with emotional & physical scars of abuse, re-learn power & control of my own body movements. Thus, I easily fell in love with the science and application of the practice in my everyday life, off the mat too. My initial study deeper into yoga was at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA where I grew up and later returned for my B.A. in African American Studies. I was 19, pregnant, with 2 semesters of classes before graduation. I took a ‘philosophy of yoga’ class to help my body adjust to a growing baby, as well as to prepare physically and mentally for a natural childbirth which, didn’t go as planned. After a traumatic birth experience that resulted in a c-section, there was an uphill battle with depression, weight gain, health issues, financial struggles, and concern for overall stability ahead.
I have waited tables, worked in a sneaker shop, taught math at a high school, became a preschool teacher, tended bar, helped manage a restaurant, started a baking business… I’ve been homeless, scared, frustrated and determined. Ultimately I am a student of life first, a life learner with a passion for creating new ways of bonding with others. It was a turn of events in 2015 that lead me to spend a summer abroad in Thailand completing 200 hr Yoga teacher training. Since then, I have continued my studies with 500hr Yoga teacher training, and am currently pursuing a Master of Science in Sports and Health Sciences.
Yoga has carried me through many things; beautiful and tough times. Most importantly it has allowed me to know myself, and decide how I want to move through the world. I am grateful for all that yoga has done for my daughter Zuniyah & I, and what it has brought into our lives as a family of two. I am an avid believer that children’s minds are such an amazing place where imagination and information melt together, as the perfect bed to plant seeds of growth and development. I teach for the kids that can’t sit still, the kids that won’t sit still, and the kids that don’t want to. I equally love working with adults…. because we all still have a little bit, of all of that, in us too ;)
